Episode 018: Stone Age

This time we look at a game that is a good worker placement game, that is made great by the theme, and artwork applied to it. Stone age is a game published by Hans Im Gluck games last year. you play as a chief of a tribe of cavemen. through the game you must gather resources and spend them wisely in order to have the most advanced tribe by the end of the game.
Everything inside the box was thoughtfully and beautifully produced. I am a sucker for art in games, and I love any board that would look great framed on the wall of a room. This game qualifies in this category without a doubt. They even put art on the back of the board. How ridiculous is that?! Money is represented by items of food in the game, and the tokens are shown as Bear hides Fish, mushrooms and berries. The dice cup they give you is made of leather and is hand stitched.
I would’ve thought that with production values of items in the game like these, that the game would be outrageously expensive. On the contrary it’s not too far away from the norm for a Euro game.
I love this game. It’s only for 2-4 people. It plays a little better with four people because of a scarcity of resources. In a 2 player game there never seems to be much of a “fight” for the best stuff on the board. If you have a chance to play this game, do so. You won’t regret it, and if nothing else there’s decent scenery for an hour or so.
