Games on the Road

I just got back from a vacation in San Diego this weekend, so that’s why you haven’t heard from me.  I’m working on editing the next video and it will be up as soon as the sunburn on my bald spot subsides, maybe sooner.

I realized something while on this trip.  I ALWAYs have games with me.  If we’re going to a friend’s house, visiting a relative, or just spending a few days away from home, they have become as essential as packing tothpaste, shampoo and bondage handcuffs.

My wife and I were talking about it, and we were discussing how, now, every time there’s a gathering for her family that we travel to, someone always asks us which game we brought.  Not IF we brought a game mind you, but which.  It’s kind of flattering and validates my geekiness with this hobby.

A long time ago I made a silent promise to never force my hobby on others.  If my Wife’s family hates games, that’s okay, I’ll do other things.  If people never want to play anything with me again when they come over, fine.  We’ll watch movies while they’re here, and keep the game closet closed.  I’ll bring a couple of games to people’s houses who I know have enjoyed them with me before, but generally leave them in the car, in case someone asks.

It’s a pretty high percentage of the time that after dinner, someone will ask if we want to play a game now.  I feel proud.  I march out to my car and unveil the latest acquisition (along with some guaranteed older favorites) and the rest of the night is spent playing games.

So if you see me pull up to your house, never fear!  There’s probably Hamsterrolle in the trunk, or Frank’s Zoo in the glove box.  Just ask and I’ll share my treasures.
